The 25th of October of 2011 was the bicentenary of the birth of the French mathematician Évariste Galois. In order to commemorate this occasion, the Department of Mathematics of the UPV/EHU has organised a so-called Galois Year, until October 25th, 2012. It will consist of a number of activities: talks, a student seminar, a research seminar, and an advanced international school on Galois groups, given by mathematicians of the highest level.
